TOP 5 BEAUTY GOALS FOR 20221. DEVELOP A CONSISTENT SKIN CARE ROUTINE:
Consistency is key to many things in life and our skin, being our largest organ, is pretty high on the priority list! We don’t usually know if something is working for us until using it for 3 months, so that product you dismissed because it didn’t do anything might’ve just needed more time with you! Lastly, make sure to keep your skin clean and hydrated morning and night. 2. TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL WELL-BEING Beauty is so much more than how we look, it’s also how we feel. Taking care of your mental well-being is the ultimate form of self love. Try taking the time to journal, or do yoga + stretch to protect your inner peace. A few examples of my own personal self care: First step: Remove all guilt before proceeding! -A daily salt bath (even if only for 10 minutes) -Detaching from my phone during evenings and weekends -Nourishing my body with high quality foods -Escaping reality for a moment with fictional therapy. (Does not have to be fiction, can be as simple as a good cook book!) -Treating myself to my favorite meals without anyone's influence. You deserve it! -Striving for a full 8 hours of good quality sleep every night. (I invested in a high-quality mattress + pillows that made all the difference) 3. SWEAT! Movement is such an important part of our overall health, and our overall health is a big player in our skin health. Make it a goal to sweat for just 10-15 minutes a day, and you will see instant results in your skin! 4. HAVE MORE FUN WITH YOUR MAKEUP With the pandemic keeping us sheltered at home, a lot of us beauty lovers lost our motivation to get creative with makeup. 2022 could bring an end to staying at home, so it’s time to get our makeup muscles right! Changes do not have to be drastic. They could be as simple as: -Trying new lip or eye colors -Adding shimmer to your cheek bones -Removing certain products or steps (sometimes less is more) - Contouring -Change your mascara color -Trying a new hair style or color! -Switching up textures: Matte, Dewey, Glossy, Shimmer...etc. 5. MAKE MORE SUSTAINABLE AND MINDFUL BEAUTY CHOICES An important and necessary resolution, making more sustainable beauty choices was the #1 goal for so many users. From buying fewer products, to choosing sustainable brands, to actually emptying out products before we toss them, and even to finding a new purpose in packaging, there are so many ways we can be more earth-conscious in our beauty journey.

Acne Coverage- I understand what it is like to try and hide acne under layers of makeup. It can be extremely frustrating and most of the time your skin just gets worse from of all the dirt and oils collected during the day. Let's go to the root of the problem real quick... these key things helped me immensely! 1)Cutting out processed sugar and dairy as much as possible 2)Working daily cardio into your schedule. 3)Finding an over the counter "medicated" skin care regimen. -This can be 100% natural as well. 4)Staying hydrated internally and externally.
5) Overall balancing our hormones. Remember, sometimes your skin will trick you and get worse before it gets better! I cannot tell you how many times this had stopped me in my tracks from continuing to try new things. Acne needs to come to the surface of the skin in order to heal. With all of that in mind, covering blemishes should be treated with the upmost care. A pre- moisturizer or healing product should be applied before the primer application. The primer will hold down and protect the clean surface while prepping for foundation of your choice. (Recommended Primer) Building Brows- If you don't already know, when you continue to wax and tweeze over a long period of time, hair will slowly stop growing back. Today, beautiful, bold, sharp brows are in! This can be challenging if you were born in the 90's and later. The trend was to achieve thinly arched brows, although, mess ups just caused more and more hair to disappear. Luckily, we have wonderful makeup products that can get your brows looking full and natural again! Less is more! Especially with filling in your eye brows. My trick: A small angled brush with a thin tip. (Frameworks Brow Powder) I wet my brush for a deeper defined line and as it dries, I fill in the patches needed. Concealer - Concealer can be confusing. If its not a foundation, nor a highlighter, what is it? Concealer is that key product containing a high pigment concentrate to bring shadowing to the surface. Concealer is typically used in areas such as; under eyes, creases of nose, in between brows, and any imperfections you don't want to be seen. Concealer should be a shade or two lighter than your skin tone and foundation. I have seen beautiful coverage done with only using Primer, Concealer, Bronzer and/or Blush, Finishing Powder (if needed) Tip: Concealer is great if you're going to be on camera and working with harsh lighting. (Hollywood Faces is designed for the camera) Dirty Faces – You absolutely need to wash your makeup off at the end of every day. "Too tired" is not a good enough excuse to clog your porous or cause your own blemishes. This can be an extremely dirty habit that will only creep up on you later in life. Excessive Products - Are you using too many products? Do you feel like you're buying makeup every month? We are so intertwined with social media, on top of the latest trends. We have this constant burning need to prove the "I can do what you can do.. but better." These major product companies thrive off from this concept! They keep reinventing the same products but putting them into new packaging. It reminded me of when the peanut butter and jelly swirled into one jar came out.. Do I really need this if I already have peanut butter and jelly at home? These products are just costing more time in the morning , money, and more upkeep. Be smart about your makeup! We can achieve a lot with a little amount. Facials Made Easy – This is one trend I find extremely smart and affordable. Facials are a luxury service that are nice to have every once in a while. Today, there are hundreds of at home facials and remedies to choose from! You can use ingredients from your own kitchen (honey, lemon, cucumber, avocado...) ALSO They made easy 10/20 minute masks that can be as little as $3 . I highly recommend this as long as you don't have sensitive skin. It's always great to give your skin a little boost of natural ingredients. Glossy Lips - There are a hand full of people that will cringe at the thought of lipgloss. They think about a sticky mess soon to be eaten off. Heres a little trick I do to resemble lipgloss without the stick... Use your regular shade of lipstick or liner (preferably not matte) and go over it with vaseline or coconut oil! Hydration- Staying hydrated with water plays a huge role in how your skin looks on a daily basis. For fresh, bright, lush skin... drink lots of water! Ingredients Matter!- You definitely don't need to go out and buy the most expensive products on the shelf. Just because the price is high, does not mean the ingredients match, the price can be large from nice packaging. Always read ingredients or at least know the product well enough to trust that you're putting clean ingredients on your face. You should be comparing the "you are what you eat" for your makeup, except "you are what you wear." Jaw Definition- Contour products are hot now! Although, this jaw defining trick can be achieved simply with bronzer or even a deep nude toned eye shadow. Improvising is my favorite! Sometimes you can find tricks to go above and beyond your expectations. Khol- We have all seen this word in the cosmetic world. Typically in eye lining products. Khol is an ancient eye cosmetic, a fine black powder that was used in the egyptian era to outline eyes. Lashes – When adding to your lashes, it is very easy to make false stripped lashes noticeable on top of your natural lash line. A little trick I picked up to prevent this is to apply a fair amount of mascara first. Then when gluing the false strip on, stick it to base of your hairs keeping it off and away from your lid. (This way, your lashes are protected with mascara from the glue, giving a much more natural appearance.) Mascara Tips - Eyelashes are very delicate. It is not hard to lose lashes from applying mascara every day. Many consumers don't realize that there is a specific ingredient causing this problem... TAR. This is a hidden ingredient put into most mascaras. Finding a mascara that is tar free will lessen the stress put on your lashes. (Move Eyes) Non Irritating Makeup - A lot of factors play into a consumers happiness with their makeup application. Everything from color to how it makes their skin feel. Makeup should be an accessory used to enhance your skin, not irritate or feel like a mask. In some cases, makeup can actually help clear up acne and protect your skin from the sun. It's okay to try many brands before you find the one your skin likes most. After all, this is similar to having a diet, externally. Oils - If you have dry/normal textured skin, I am all for oils! Coconut oil, Argan Oil, Avocado Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil.. and the list goes on! This is a beautiful and healthy additive to your skin. Picking the Perfect Foundation- Foundation can be compared to trying on new clothes. This product needs to match your lifestyle, your skin tone, and comfort your skin texture. Foundations come in all shapes in sizes. Some lightweight and some heavy for a thicker coverage. Also, what is realistic for you during your morning routine? Something with added moisture for a quick apply and go or something to fit in and balance nicely with your other products. Lastly, all foundation shades should be tested and matched in natural lighting! This is very important. You will be happiest when purchasing. Quit using products that test on animals! - This is beyond cruel and we would never support such careless product production. There is an app called BUNNY FREE by PETA that will sort though all beauty brands telling you whether they test on animals or not. Removing Makeup Trick - Makeup removers can be tricky when figuring what you should put on your skin. Honestly, I believe that natural products and at -home remedies are much more efficient without irritation. My favorite trick for eye makeup is my botanical based Primer (Film Ready) Easy on the eyes and my skin loves it! Sunscreen- A sun protectant is so important! Do you ever look at models or celebrities and wish you had their complexion? Not only are they worked on by different specialist all the time, they also protect their skin from the sun constantly! Sun damage leads to wrinkles, sun spots, age spots, and even worse. You also don't want to have to keep changing your foundation base when you can always add a little more color or bronzer. Tweezers- These will always come in handy! Tweezers can be used to clean up sudden hairs or help apply lashes. This is a product worth investing a little more money in for a tough lasting grip. Un-even Cat Eye - This might be one of the most researched beauty trends of this generation. How to get an even liner on both eyes? We have to jump back to geometry class for this one. All eyes are different and in most cases no two eyes are completely symmetrical. Start at the outside of your lash line and draw a vertical line up to your eyelid crease. Do this one both sides. From the crease on both sides, glide your liner pen back towards your lashes creating a very narrow triangle. Fill in any gaps and match. This can be done in baby steps to achieve an "almost perfect" cat eye. (Cat Eye Liner) Visible Pores - Large pores can be a part of genetics. Fortunately, we have such simple ways to minimize the size before makeup application. (Film Ready Primer) is a perfect product for minimizing pores, creating a smooth base, and blending the application for a flawless finish! Waxing vs Shaving – Call me old fashioned, but waxing is a preference when it comes to ridding unwanted hair. Within time, the hair will eventually stop growing back! Waxing over shaving is less maintenance. As long as the hair is pulled at the root, it lessens the chance of growing back after time. X Marks The Spot! – Let's jump back to mascara tricks! The "X formation" will give you the biggest and boldest lash look. Swipe back and forth in each direction using your mascara wand for a doll like finish. (Movie Eyes) Youthful Complexion – Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will make the most impact on your skin! Eat the rainbow, drink plenty of water, and staying active will bring out the best quality of you before makeup applications. Zeal – Lastly, great energy is key to beauty! Zeal: Enthusiasm, passion, love in pursuit of a cause. Being extra cautious with eye brushes and sponges should be a top priority. I have seen cases of conjunctivitis, infections, and clogged tear ducts resulting in medical attention. If you haven’t seen all the viral videos about bugs hibernating in sponges, go take a look! This may scare you into over the top daily cleanliness. We are all created perfectly, so we need to be cherishing our largest organ like a temple. The skin requires the upmost gentle attention and love. Washing your makeup tools: After every application, use warm water and wet the bristles, gentle massage with soap in the palm of your hand, rinse again under running water until suds are gone. Squeeze out the brush and allow to air dry. The same process works for a sponge. (Tip: Never drag a makeup sponge along your skin, gently blot)
Air Drying- For a lot of us, a blow dryer is incorporated into our daily routines. We know our hair and we create the style we like by using heat. In this day and age, it’s very easy to be in the moment and fall into instant gratification - not realizing that we are damaging hair cuticles by causing our hair to lose moisture faster than it can be reabsorbed from the air. The fibers swell, contract, and crack… which will demand a lot more attention in the future. Just by removing the blow dryer 2 out of 7 days a week, you can keep the hair in a much healthier state.
Braids- The best trick to prevent the extra wash! It is normal to think the cleaner, the healthier, but that’s not the case. By washing every day, you are removing natural oils needed to protect your beautiful locks - creating long-term brittleness and dandruff. Braid your hair when its feels too greasy to style it. (Brush the natural oils from scalp to ends before braiding) Braids are always in style! Condition! -Post Shampoo, Leave-in Conditioner, Treatments, and Oils = Love them all! Happy Hydrated Hair (Satin Frost, Silk, Sleek Elegance) Dandruff – You have a few options to cure dandruff. If it is light, you could gently shampoo your hair with products containing plant based oils. Here is what I recommend (Precious Topaz) If you have heavy dandruff and cannot stop itching your scalp, its a good idea to do an overnight treatment. Don’t be shy with the amount, massage into the hair from scalp to ends. Don’t forget to cover your pillow with a towel! (Vintage Vanilla) There are also many at home remedies that people can use without using specific hair products… Eat Right -Believe it or not, this is one of the most important factors in healthy hair. What you eat on a daily basis has a great contribution. Beneficial foods include: almond butter, tangerines, spinach, lentils, and the list goes on. You definitely want to avoid sodas, starches, fast foods...etc. Frizz – Something we can’t always control because it’s naturally caused by heat & humidity. What we can control is the use of a protectant for our hair before using hot tools. Also, we can use sulfate-free shampoos to minimize the frizz (Precious Topaz) Lastly, keeping a couple of products in our purse to smooth down the cuticles. (Opalescence) Grey Hairs- Everyone has them! I like to call them beautiful symbols of growth! Sometimes they can be alarming because we jump to the conclusion that we are getting older. Of course there are stylists who can correct the color for you, but if you are open to embracing them, here are some great products to keep your hair bouncy and shiny (Sleek Elegance, Everlasting Emerald) Heat Protectors- I don’t know a single stylist that would ever suggest going without a heat protectant when using hot tools. You will thank yourself later! (Streamline) Ingrown Hairs- These can be painful and annoying! Scrubs and tea tree oil are on the top of my list! Ingrown hairs can be caused by clogged follicles forcing the hair to grow under the skin rather than outward. Allowing them to naturally heal themselves in the best bet, and using gentle scrubs and oils can encourage the healing process. JoJoba Oil- A liquid plant wax, also considered an oil that comes from a shrub native to Arizona, California, and Mexico. This oil has been used to treat a number of ailments including: sores, bruises, acne, sunburn, chapped skin, and encouraged hair regrowth. Jojoba Oil unclogs hair follicles and acts as a natural healer. Today, many hair products are created with this oil. (Vintage Vanilla) Keratin- A lot of people come to me confused with the topic of keratin. Keratin is a protein of the hair formed by the combination of 18 amino acids. Overall, protecting the hair shaft from damage or stress. So a “keratin treatment” is used to rebuild the keratin structure. Its forced upon the hair using heat and chemicals which in the end can be more damaging. Layers – Growing your hair out? Is it heavy? A great amount of people prefer their hair long but the weight prevents them from being able to style it. My answer is LAYERS! Nothing bold or that takes away from the cut but just enough layers to add movement and body to the hair. This was the greatest form of art in hair cutting in my professional opinion. Massaging the scalp- Use a cleansing shampoo once a week to prevent any scalp build up. Massage scalp in the shower for 3-5 minutes for a refreshing detox. (Cool Ice) Natural- Sometimes being skeptical about this word is best. Always read the ingredients so you know what you are putting in or on your body. Natural ingredients are purely extracted from plants and/or earth minerals. Overtreatment- Be cautious of over treating your hair. Sometimes we know the result we want but do not understand the steps that are taken to retrieve the end goal. An overtreatment would be an aggressive approach to remove or color hair that can result in permanent damage. Perms- NO. JUST NO. Don’t put those chemicals on your hair. Quit using box dyes! - Unless you are glossing up your natural shade and making it rich, I highly advise against using a lighter shade from a box. You could not only damage your hair, you could create a huge color correction for a stylist that will cost many dollars! Always ask a professional about color. Razor Cuts- You want texture? Ask your stylist to finish your cut with a razor to add textured pieces perfect for styling with gel or (Forming Paste). Great for short hair! Sunshine- Although a little vitamin d is necessary, it can be harsh on the skin, scalp, and hair. A day at the pool or on the beach, a great leave in conditioner is perfect! A trick to fight salt & mineral build up as well as sunshine is to rinse your hair with fresh water and apply a little conditioner as a coat (don’t rinse) before going into chlorine filled pool or ocean. Trims- Hair trims are a must! You can still grow your hair out and maintain a healthy trim of split or dead ends. It keeps the perimeter nice and full leaving a healthy head of hair. Untangling Hair - Use a wide toothcomb or a wet brush (flexible bristles) and a small amount of argan oil to safely remove matted hair without breakage.(Liquid Gold ) Virgin Hair - Completely unprocessed and intact hair that is best for donating to ones in need. If you’re ready for a change, here is a great place to donate your locks! (Locks of Love) Wavy Hair – This style is always trendy, especially in the summer time. Beachy waves are quick and easy to maintain. After a good conditioning in the shower, gently towel dry, add a pea size drop of oil to your palm and mix with a quarter size drop of styling gel or cream, massage and scrunch from ends to roots. Beautiful! Xanthous Hair – “Word of the Day” Having yellowish, red, auburn, or brown colored hair. Youthful Complexion – Drink 6-8 tall glasses of water a day for youthful skin and hair. Zinc – Zinc is a vital mineral for strong hair growth. A deficiency in zinc can cause large amounts of hair shedding, so it’s important to make sure you are getting the fulfilling amount needed. Zinc is found in foods such as nuts, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, and spinach. I was taught about health and caring for you body at a young age. The basic "you are what you eat, wash your face before bed, or protect your skin from the sun"...etc. In reality, hearing these word from a parent as a pre-teen, you feel a burden or pressure. Until the day comes, when you learn to look back and say "Ahh! My parents were actually right!"
I was beyond immersed in the world of beauty makers at a young age. I saw up close and personal do's & don'ts on a daily basis. I am a serious observer (sometimes to a fault) and I caught on quick. When my mother first had the idea of Je Beau International, I was fully on board! Some of us are prone to acne, oily skin, dryness, scarring, discoloration, or any "beauty marks" that we aren't completely comfortable with. I have experienced and witnessed hundreds of brands all having their pros and cons. Typically, if a brand is healthy for the skin, it may not give the coverage or light feeling that you want. On the other end, if a brand gives you plenty of coverage, its harsh and heavy on the skin. It's a constant lose lose battle! Je Beau International was designed to be that "in between." Light on the skin, full coverage, and natural cruelty-free ingredients. The bonus is the use for photo, film, and television. We like to promote as natural beauty as possible and embrace comfortability in one's skin. I have noticed such beautiful work these days done by makeup bloggers in my generation. Displaying foundation for every day use. I keep thinking "It's too much." Unless you are a makeup artist, it is not very motivating to approach this 10-step process with 5-8 products to gain this flawless finish. Especially with big label brands that are mass produced and lacking health quality. I categorize myself more as a consumer than a makeup artist even though I am fully licensed. I want to make it simple for the every day man or woman to be fully confident in there skin without feeling guilty about "covering up." There is something truly elegant about Classic Hollywood Icons. So simple and so breathtaking. Less was definitely more back then vs. now. Let's bring that back! Je Beau's Flawless Finish in 3 Steps: Film Ready Primer Hollywood Faces Forever Famous HD Powder Film Ready Primer is designed to protect your skin, reduce large pores, and allow for easy application of Hollywood Faces.
