WHAT IS DANDRUFF?
Dandruff is a very common condition that causes the scalp to shed dry skin. Dandruff can come with itchiness, excess oil, dry patches, or even raised bumps along the hairline.

WHAT CAUSES DANDRUFF?
Dandruff can be a telling sign of a number of conditions. Lets start with Seborrheic Dermatitis, also know as Eczema. This is a common reason for dandruff and cases can range from mild to severe. This impacts areas of the body that creates more sebum (oil).

Contact Dermatitis is typically a skin irritant causes by Allergens. This can be your body's way of telling you that it is allergic to something.

Climate induced dry skin. Dandruff can be a seasonal condition for some, especially in the dry and cold winter months.

Shampooing habits. This can go either way, shampooing too frequently or not enough. You may have to pay close attention to this one and learn your body's natural rhythm. You may be rushing the natural process of shedding dead skin cells or not keeping up with the frequency.

Hormonal Imbalances. A very common condition in women is PCOS, Polycyctic Ovarian Syndrome. This condition leads to androgens (male hormones) stimulating activity in the sebacious glands. More oil = increased chance of inflammation = dandruff.

These are just a few of the many causes...

HEALING & PREVENTION
Who is the 1 person that knows your hair as much as you? Your hair stylist! Allow your stylist to give recommendations on products to use if you are struggling with dandruff. They can even suggest how often you should be using them!

A lot of eczema, psoriasis, and hormonal imbalance are a result of what is happening in the liver. This can be a sign of built up toxins that haven't had the proper nudge to release. This can happen by altering slight changes to your breakfast and morning routine! Every morning upon waking, your liver tries to expel toxins that have been filtered. The moment you put a form of fat (healthy included) into your body, the natural detoxification stops and your pancreas and liver are switched back on. Lemon water first thing upon waking is the best gift you can give to your belly & liver! Making the simple switch from eggs or toast to fruit or oatmeal is also prolonging the detox in the morning. You would be surprised to know how much toxins can build up over years. (including heavy metals, air pollutants, and chemical.)

Get Some Sunshine! This can be a beautiful remedy for suppressing the fungus that causes dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis.

Minimize Stress! Stress plays a huge roll in our overall health. It controls our bodies on a mental and physical level. By reducing stress through exercise, breathing practices, or getting creative, we can prevent and heal dandruff in many cases.

Avoid Specific Edible Culprits! This may be a tough one to swallow but these types of foods contribute to many more health issues than just dandruff. Refined carbs such as white bread, white rice, white pasta, cookies, crackers, etc.. Also, red meat, all processed foods, fried foods, excess oils, and refined sugars.
